Outpatient Treatment Many individuals find it possible to work on their recovery from addiction while living at home. Outpatient treatment is a suitable approach for highly motivated people who can abstain, with support, from the use of alcohol or other drugs. Chestnut offers outpatient and intensive outpatient programs.

Intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) services incorporate most of the components of residential treatment, but on an outpatient basis. This treatment, designed for individuals who demonstrate the ability to abstain from using substances, provides the opportunity to learn new alcohol and other drug free behavior. IOP uses a small group format, meeting on weekdays or evenings, with additional weekend involvement. The length of treatment is individually tailored to the client's unique circumstances. Clients explore their addiction through a variety of means:

  • chemical dependence education
  • individual and group counseling
  • participation in a variety of self-help groups
  • training in relevant life skills to promote healthy life styles
Those who have successfully completed IOP or residential treatment often go on to outpatient treatment. The longer a person remains involved with treatment, the greater the likelihood of continued recovery. Chestnut customizes its care to fit the needs of each client. Individual, group and family counseling services are offered to assist in the recovery process. Most people in recovery also benefit from involvement with a variety of self-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
