EAWS provides comprehensive assessments as part of the EAP services and provides short-term counseling within the EAP when indicated. Specialized, non-clinical services within the EAP, including credit counseling, career assessment and legal consultation are also available. If an employee or dependent within the EAP needs additional assistance, EAP counselors typically:

  • Offer a minimum of two, usually three, referral options and orient them to the differences among the options;

  • Assist them in determining whether or not the referral is covered under their company's health insurance benefit and the approximate cost of the referral. (However, the EAP cannot guarantee that the referral choice will be covered or funded - it is ultimately their responsibility to be aware of the benefits and limitations of your coverage and to verify your benefits).

  • Contact the referral source (with their consent) and assess compatibility, discuss the transfer of information, and help schedule an appointment.
Employees or their families may access the EAP themselves, or they may be referred by a coworker or friend. Employees may also be referred to the EAP in a formal supervisory meeting, or as part of their fitness-for-duty.
