Chestnut offers the following community and professional training programs:
- ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND OTHER DRUGS EDUCATION -- Information and training for professionals, community organizations, churches, law enforcement, workplace, and schools on substance abuse and prevention topics:
- Effects of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs on health, behavior, and society.
- Prenatal effects of alcohol and other drugs.
- Signs and symptoms of substance abuse
- Addictions and the family
- Drinking, drugging, and driving
- Media impact on alcohol and tobacco use
- Risk factors for substance abuse, delinquency, and teen pregnancy.
- Prevention strategies
- STRESS MANAGEMENT -- Multi-session program which includes understanding stress and identifying stressors, stress management skills including communication, conflict resolution, time management, relaxation, and diet and exercise.
- STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM -- Training for school teams to identify and intervene with students exhibiting high risk behavior. Chestnut Health Systems is currently working with a 16 county area through the Madison County Regional Office of Education to facilitate the ISBE Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Student Assistance Program Initiative. This facilitation includes coordination of trainings to develop new programs and enhance existing programs, technical assistance to SAP core teams, and statewide coordination of SAP efforts to strengthen SAP programs throughout the state.
- CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT -- Training for teachers in developing and implementing ATOD and violence prevention curriculum.
- ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE SERVER TRAINING -- Training for people involved in the serving or sales of alcoholic beverages to reduce the risk of impaired driving and identify underage drinkers.
- ADULT LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM -- Multi-session skill development program for client populations focusing on stress management, conflict resolution, communication, decision-making, and violence prevention.
- SECOND STEP -- Teacher Training program for K - 8 teachers to provide skills in implementing Second Step Violence Prevention Curriculum.
- SAFE -- Training for emergency service personnel on injury prevention.
