The Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) program provides services to consumers who have chronic mental illness. The goal of the program is to provide a safe and supportive environment to assist consumers to achieve stability, to grow with dignity and self-worth, and to cope with community life and reduce hospitalization. Empowering consumers to make independent decisions is a major emphasis of the program.

Edison Clubhouse
The Clubhouse is consumer-run and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for any registered consumer of Chestnut Health Systems. Skills classes, self-help groups, and recreational activities are offered throughout the day. Lunch is prepared on site by consumers and served daily for a nominal charge.

Psychosocial Skills Classes
These classes cover a range of topics, including those suggested by consumers. Topics include: coping with symptoms of mental illness, medication management; communication skills, relationships, substance abuse and recovery.

Vocational Program
Consumers participating in PSR activities are encouraged to seek employment, if they wish, to support their growing independence and to allow them to broaden their experiences. Vocational services available include: classes in pre-vocational and vocational skills, job application skills, resume preparation, job coaching, and on-site assistance in adjusting to competitive work situations.

Consumer Resource Development
A vital part of the PSR program is providing community education and accurate information about mental illness and how to reduce the existing stigma associated with psychiatric illnesses. Consumers and staff are available to assist organizations by presenting information and guidelines for supporting consumers.
