Therapy and counseling are treatment methods used by trained social workers and counselors to help people resolve emotional, mental, and behavioral problems. Family therapy brings family members together so that all may take part in addressing and resolving difficult issues. The type and intensity of services depends on the needs of each individual or family, and persons may take part in a combination of individual, marital, family, group, or psychiatric treatment.

Chestnut Health Systems' mental health staff are Master's degreed, licensed professionals who have strengths in managing depression, anxiety, trauma, and behavioral problems such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. A licensed art therapist on staff works with children and their caregivers who have been exposed to violence and related trauma. We also have trained and experienced staff interns who are completing their Master's degrees in social work and counseling.

Issues addressed in therapy may include:

  • Stress or anxiety resulting from problems with relationships;
  • Excessive anger or frustration with family members;
  • Stress related to chronic physical or mental illness;
  • Problems with school or employment;
  • Life changes, such as adolescence, marriage, divorce, parenthood, step-family issues, "empty nest" issues, retirement, old age, death;
  • Issues of sexuality or sexual identity;
  • Problems following traumatic events;
  • Family conflict and abuse;
  • Parenting issues, including skills training, parent-child mediation, and childhood behavioral disorders.

Our staff are trained to respect the privacy of all persons whom we serve, and we adhere to all state and federal regulations regarding the confidentiality of your treatment records.

Services are available Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify, and we also accept Medicaid as a source of payment.
