Lifelines are a series of group sessions designed to help people cope with depression by increasing knowledge of the illness, developing effective coping strategies, and nurturing realistic hope for the future. Lifelines consist of sessions addressing topics like: how thinking and activity affect feelings; how to deal with other people; how to cope with grief and loss; how to build hope.

Serenity is a series of group sessions designed to help people learn to manage anger. Participants learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of behavior problems, and how to develop new skills to turn confrontation and conflict into dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding.

Connections is a biweekly support group for women who have learned to manage their chronic mental illness. Participants benefit from the ongoing interaction and sharing with others who understand their experience.

Trauma, Recovery, and Empowerment Group (TREM) is a weekly therapy group for women with a history of trauma. Women learn to identify current behaviors and symptoms that may have begun as coping responses to trauma. Those participants who may have been deprived of the opportunity to learn skills necessary for adult coping can experience a healing community that makes it possible for them to learn to trust their own perceptions, and receive support and validation for correct perceptions.

Other Groups offered by Chestnut include a 12 session series of classes for parents on an ongoing basis entitled Parenting Kids with ADHD & Oppositional Disorders. During the same time as the parent classes, we offer groups for children age 5 and older. For youth aged 13 to 17 who have problems managing anger, Chestnut has pioneered an 8-week group entitled Students Managing Anger Resolution Together (SMART).
