Chestnut Health Systems provides comprehensive treatment for children and youth ages 17 and under. We emphasize the importance of both the child and the parent understanding children's needs, behaviors and symptoms.

Families with limited resources are typically eligible for state grants, which enable them to obtain excellent care for acute problems. Our services are designed for effective, short-term interventions with a variety of difficulties experienced by children and youth. Our treatment staff are experienced in helping families and children cope with such issues as depression and grief, anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioral problems, family conflict, blended family issues, and serious trauma such as the death of a parent.

Our Children and Youth Services consist of four important treatment elements:

  • Family Counseling,
  • Individual Counseling;
  • Education Classes for Parents; and
  • Consultation and Evaluation by a Psychiatrist (when needed).
Chestnut offers a 12 session series of classes for parents, on an ongoing basis, entitled Parenting Kids with ADHD & Oppositional Disorders. During the same time as the parent classes, we offer groups for children age 5 and older. For youth aged 13 to 17 who have problems managing anger, Chestnut has pioneered an 8-week group entitled Students Managing Anger Resolution Together (SMART).

Medication may be a part of the treatment program, and will be prescribed only when the other three treatment components are in place. When we accept families with children for services, we ask that they commit to participating in all programs recommended by treatment staff.

Services are available Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify, and we also accept Medicaid as a source of payment.
