All residents of Chestnut, both adult and adolescent, are offered the opportunity to discuss their risk factors for contracting HIV with a staff member trained in risk evaluation. Education related lowering one's risk for HIV are then discussed with the client. Testing for HIV is available free of charge to chemical dependency treatment residents only, using either blood draw or the new Orasure method, which does not involve the use of needles. Results are usually available within 10 days, and results and implications are discussed with the client. Persons desiring more information about HIV/AIDS can explore the Center for Disease Control webpage, and more information about sexually transmitted diseases can be found by contacting your local Health Department or through SIECUS.
